If something breaks in your house, say like a semi-major plumbing problem, who would you call to come over and fix it? Would you look online for a plumber? Would you maybe call the one friend in your group who knows how to fix shit? Or would you just call your dad? Yeah I bet you’d call your dad. But how does your dad know how to fix stuff? Is it God-given? Was he born with the ability to fuse copper pipes together using a blow torch without really knowing why? No, he was taught it I guess. I’m thankful that I can at least get by without having to call someone for most handyman stuff, but I get the feeling that my generation and the next generation have dwindling numbers of people who can actually do these things. That’s why I like to think that in the not-too-distant future, there will come a day when there’s just one guy left. He’ll travel the earth on service calls as the last remaining handyman. When he finally arrives, have him check your car too. You don’t want that thing breaking down right after he leaves; he’s pretty booked.
